Spain in court over drinking water directive

Spain looks certain to be condemned by the European court of justice for failing to transpose the EU's 1998 drinking water directive on time after court advocate general Siegbert Alber recommended the step today. All member states were bound to transpose the directive by December 2000. Spain is not alone in having failed to do so: Belgium and the UK both currently face similar charges in the court (EED 16/10/02). See opinion in case C-29/02.
