Environment "down" in sustainability reports

The importance of environmental issues in sustainability reporting has taken a tumble, while social and economic dimensions are receiving greater emphasis, according to the latest snapshot of the top 100 reports released yesterday. This drop in emphasis was "potentially worrying", according to the overview report compiled by the UN environment programme and consultancy SustainAbility. The top seven reporting companies were Europe-based, with the Co-operative bank leading the pack, the authors said. They also noted that reports using the Global reporting initiative guidelines scored significantly better than those that did not. See executive summary.
