Norwegian council to tackle inshore pollution

Norway's environment minister Børge Brende has announced the formation of a national council to address sediment pollution thought to affect 1,200 square kilometres of the country's fjords and harbours, implementing a proposal in a marine environment white paper issued last year (EED 15/03/02). "This is a serious problem for society, and it will probably cost billions to clean up after 'the sins of the past' along the entire coast," Mr Brende said.
