Italy's 2004 budget goes to parliament

The Italian government is proposing increased funding for polluted site reclamation, the national environment agency and environmental protection programmes in its draft budget for 2004, which is due for parliament discussion this week. Italian green groups branded as "indecent and indefensible" a measure to exempt from prosecution against payment of a one-off tax owners of illegally constructed buildings. They also criticised a 28% cut in funds for soil protection. See draft budget 2004 and green groups' paper.
