The EU's official fisheries advisory body will on Friday issue its strongest warning yet over the health of certain European fish stocks. The International council for the exploration of the sea (Ices) is calling for zero catches on four species in several different fishing regions. The European Commission described the conclusion as "rather stark". Green group WWF said EU member states now had "no option but to take immediate and radical action to allow fish stocks to recover". See Ices home page and statements by Ices, the European Commission and WWF.
