The head of the UN environment programme, Klaus Töpfer, on Monday urged international investors to abandon their "business-as-usual" approach and move towards "sustainable forms of energy to power the global economy". Speaking in Tokyo at a UN finance sector event, Mr Töpfer said it was time investors' "wait-and-see" attitude shifted towards full support for renewable energy and energy efficiency. A Sustainable energy finance initiative (Sefi) was also launched, with the aim of supporting financiers overcome lack of information and experience to invest substantially in renewable energy. See press release and Sefi website.
