UK creates sustainable buildings taskforce

A new UK sustainable buildings task force is to advise the government by next February on measures to improve use of energy, water and construction materials and to reduce waste. Environment minister Margaret Beckett unveiled the initiative on Tuesday at a "better buildings summit". Buildings account for nearly half of national carbon dioxide emissions and over half of water consumption, Ms Beckett noted. She urged builders, architects, financial institutions, manufacturers and consumers to help identify and achieve improvements in performance.
