Forthcoming EU rules requiring electricity suppliers from next July to inform customers of the fuel mix in their portfolio should be "simple, feasible and cost-efficient", says European electricity industry association Eurelectric. Unless suppliers are allowed to adopt "a flexible system based on best available information", it warns in a report, implementation of the rules may be delayed. Eurelectric also says that suppliers should decide individually how to present information. A European Commission-sponsored report recently recommended instead a harmonised system across the EU (EED 21/10/03). See press release and report.
