The environment ministers of Germany, France and the UK have urged Russia to ratify the Kyoto protocol, which they said was "the only international framework at our disposal" to combat climate change. In a statement last week, Jürgen Trittin, Roselyne Bachelot and Margaret Beckett said that evidence of human-induced global warming was now "convincing" and that there was no "credible alternative" to the Kyoto protocol. Russia's ratification is crucial for the protocol's entry into force, but Russian president Vladimir Putin has not yet committed to it (EED 03/10/03). See press release.
