EU health plan "must be scientifically based"

European chemical firms have warned of a need for strong scientific foundations for the emerging EU environment and health action plan, Scale. In a statement marking a meeting of a consultative group, which ended on Friday, trade association Cefic said that deadlines imposed by the European Commission made it "impossible" for working groups to "achieve a comprehensive approach and an acceptable degree of scientific rigour". Independent scientists' group Greenfacts echoed these fears in a separate statement. See press releases from Cefic and Greenfacts, and European Commission Scale webpages.
