States challenged over radwaste, vehicle tests

The European Commission has announced final warnings of possible court action against five states for breaches of EU environmental rules. The UK failed to pre-inform the Commission of a radioactive waste disposal authorisation granted to military facilities. The UK maintains that the EU's Euratom treaty does not apply to defence facilities, the Financial Times newspaper reported. Meanwhile, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Denmark are accused of failing to transpose on time two 2003 directives on roadworthiness and emissions testing of lorries and cars.
