UK group urges sustainable packaging vision

Britain has been urged to adopt a long-term vision for sustainable packaging. In report commissioned by packaging producer Tetra Pak, green group Forum for the Future warns of a potential backlash against current recycling efforts without new policies. It calls for landfill bans for materials that can be recycled or composted, and for much higher municipal waste recycling targets. It recommends raising and extending to incineration the country's existing landfill tax. And it demands universal doorstep waste collection for composting and recycling by 2010. See press release.
