NGOs have warned of potential global environmental disaster in two new reports. In the latest of its "Living Planet" ecological footprinting series, WWF warns that humanity "is plundering the planet", consuming 20% more resources than the earth can produce, while monitored wildlife species declined on average by 40% between 1970 and 2000. In a separate report - "Up in Smoke" - an NGO coalition warns that global warming "threatens to reverse human progress", and particularly goals of reducing global poverty. See WWF press release and report, and NEF press release and report.
