The EU's aluminium industry is getting greener, according to sustainable development indicators from the European aluminium association (EAA). Both emissions and electricity consumption have dropped since 1997. But bauxite residue deposits have risen 6%. The EAA said that its next sustainability report - due in 2006 - would include an indicator showing the percentage of residues reused. This first set of data will feed into an expected 2005 European Commission communication on raw materials and energy supply in the EU metals industry. See press release.
