The Belgian government has adopted measures to cut the use of environmentally harmful pesticides. The reduction programme - adopted by the Belgian council of ministers on Friday - aims to halve the risks posed by agricultural pesticides by 2010. Aspects of the programme include the introduction of a licence for the use of pesticides, and special measures covering the disposal of methyl bromide. As of 2006 the programme will be funded by "specific contributions" (such as taxes) levied on the most harmful products. The European Commission is slowly developing a pesticides policy for the EU (EED 05/11/02). See information on government website.
