Poland "facing €500m packaging waste bill"

A report commissioned by the Polish environment ministry has warned that investments of €250-500m will be needed to reach EU packaging waste management targets. Poland must attain a 60% recycling rate by 2014 under EU rules. The report concludes that this will not be possible unless all waste producers are forced to pay product fees and fee rates are increased. Currently, 84% of packaging waste recycled comes from industrial and retail sources. A big challenge now is to increase recycling of household packaging waste, the report states. See the report.
