New push for harmonised renewables support

An association promoting tradable renewable energy certificates (Recs) has renewed its call for EU support systems to be harmonised ahead of a European Commission report on the issue due next month. Recs argues that certificates of origin are the best way to promote renewable electricity. Renewable energy producers and some EU governments strongly oppose any move to harmonise support mechanisms, especially if that were to mean an end to the feed-in systems now used in many countries. The Commission's report is expected to conclude that harmonisation is "too soon". See press release.
