Industrial legal timber trade plan attacked

Greenpeace slams UK, Belgian, Dutch initiative to increase the volume of legal timber imports

Greenpeace has criticised a voluntary industry scheme to ensure the legality of tropical timber products imported to Europe. The tropical timber action plan (TTAP) - was launched last week by the UK, Belgian and Dutch national timber associations.

The aim of TTAP is to "increase the volume of verifiably legal hardwood timber traded in Europe by changing the way industry tracks and buys timber products." Industry is investing €3.5m into the scheme. The European Commission has promised the same amount of EU funding.
