A new EU law on heavy lorry emissions will enter force on 9 November following its publication in the bloc's official journal. The law, a recasting of earlier legislation, sets "Euro 3" and "Euro 4" norms - the latter applicable to new types of heavy-duty engines from this month and all types from October 2006. It was approved by the Council of ministers last month, and paves the way for stricter "Euro 5" norm (EED 22/09/05). It was published on 20 October. See directive 2005/55/EC.
