Danes establish crime-fighting 'eco-forum'

A new Danish forum involving local authorities, police and prosecutors will aim to improve enforcement of environmental legislation. The informal body, to be based on a similar forum in neighbouring Sweden, will create guidelines for implementing environmental rules and tackle crime prevention, environment minister Connie Hedegaard said. It will also coordinate joint campaigns in the light of recent government reforms transferring responsibility for enforcement from county to local level. Specific issues might include pollution caused by shipping and infractions of chemical regulations. See press release.
