Montreal "will not deliver new climate deal"

EU environment commissioner Dimas plays down hopes of agreement on post-2012 climate policy framework

EU environment commissioner Stavros Dimas has again played down expectations of a deal on global climate policy post-2012 when Kyoto protocol parties meet from the end of the month in Montreal. "It is far too much to expect full agreement to be reached on all the core elements of a future climate change regime," he said in London on Monday. "Montreal will not produce the final solution to climate change - but it might be a crucial stepping stone towards reaching a global consensus." See Dimas speech.
