EU steps up environmental technologies plan

European commission announces timetable for EU-wide stakeholder panel to boost market take-off

Environment commissioner Stavros Dimas has announced that work is underway to create a European panel on environmental technologies. First announced in the European commission eco-technologies action plan, Etap, in 2004 (EED 28/01/04), the panel will bring together diverse stakeholders to identify best practice, stimulate investments and take Etap forward. Speaking at a UK presidency event on eco-innovation on 1 December, Mr Dimas said the panel should be launched next spring. MEPs recently called for more action to boost demand for eco-technologies.
