Plan for a sustainable Scotland issued

Strategy aims to reduce Scottish emissions and ecological footprint, contribute to UN millennium goals

The Scottish executive released on Wednesday its first sustainable development strategy. The strategy commits to reducing Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions and ecological footprint and to contribute to the UN millennium goals. According to Scottish environment agency, the environment each year provides the country with ecosystem services worth UK£17bn (€25bn) of ecosystem services. The agency met on Thursday with other Scottish government agencies to discuss how to take the strategy forward. See press release, the strategy and environment agency reaction.
