EU wildlife policy makers debate climate change

Senior European policy makers have discussed what global warming means for wildlife at a meeting in Scotland hosted by the British EU presidency. "We need to act now to ensure our wildlife can adapt to climate change", UK biodiversity minister Jim Knight told the seminar of EU nature directors. The presidency sent a similar message to EU agriculture ministers when they met with environment ministers in London last month (EED 13/09/05). Green group IUCN welcomed Mr Knight's support for stopping biodiversity loss by 2010. See statements by UK environment ministry and IUCN.
