Council backs new green legislation

Ministers ratify deals reached with European parliament on groundwater pollution and PFOS

The council of ministers has officially ratified agreements with the European parliament on two new pieces of EU environmental legislation.  Revised rules on groundwater pollution (EED 18/10/06) and a ban on marketing and use of persistent pollutant PFOS (EED 25/10/06) were approved without discussion by EU transport ministers on Monday.  The council also backed an agreement with MEPs on a new directive on services in the internal market (EED 15/11/06).  See transport council press release.
