Stakeholders prepare for aviation ETS proposal

Green groups warn of windfall profits a week after airlines predict "dire economic consequences"

The aviation sector could reap windfall profits up to €4bn from being included in the EU emission trading scheme, UK pressure group WWF and greenish think-tank IPPR claimed on Monday. Both were aiming to put pressure on the European commission, which is due to issue proposals to bring aviation into the EU ETS on Wednesday.  Just over a week ago airlines predicted that inclusion would instead result in "dire economic consequences" for the sector (EED 08/12/06).
