Reach to enter force on 1 June 2007

Council and parliament presidents sign chemical policy reform regulation;  law to be published by year’s end

The EU Reach regulation will enter force on 1 June next year after being formally signed by the presidents of the EU council of ministers and European parliament on Monday.  Environment ministers unanimously approved a compromise text negotiated with the parliament earlier this month before the signing ceremony (EED 01/12/06).  MEPs approved the deal last week.  The text of the regulation will be published in the EU’s official journal by the end of the year, the parliament said.  See environment council conclusions and parliament news release.
