Council supports agri-environment indicators

Reliable figures needed to integrate environmental concerns into CAP, say agriculture ministers

Farm ministers have called on the European commission to establish a "more stable and permanent" system of agri-environment indicators to track the greening of EU farm practices.  Meeting in Brussels on Wednesday, ministers welcomed a list of 28 indicators proposed by the commission in September as a good starting point (EED 27/09/06).  At the same meeting, the council adopted a regulation extending financial aid for energy crops to all 25 member states and increasing the maximum eligible area across the EU from 1.5m to 2m hectares.   See council meeting minutes.
