EU parliament committee delivers Bali resolution

Temporary climate change forum backs EU leaders' call for 2020 and 2050 industrialised country emission cuts

The European parliament's temporary climate change committee has produced its first report, on EU demands for the Bali world climate conference in December.  In a resolution adopted on Monday the committee said industrialised countries had a "moral obligation" to cut their emissions by at least 30 per cent by 2020 and up to 80 per cent by 2050, compared with 1990.  The targets chime with those endorsed by EU leaders in March (EED 09/03/07).  The full parliament will consider the report next month.  See European parliament press release.
