Ministers back EU environment-health resolution

Council says EU must strengthen integration of environment and health concerns into all decision-making

Environment ministers adopted a resolution on Thursday urging further progress on an EU strategy on the health-related aspects of environmental issues.  The resolution responds to the European commission's mid-term review of the strategy, which concluded earlier this year that meeting its goals by the 2010 deadline would be difficult (EED 13/06/07).  The text of the resolution is little changed from a draft circulated last month (EED 14/11/07).  The importance of precaution has been emphasised.  Guidelines on indoor environments should be "consolidated" with "special attention" to construction products, chemicals and eco-design.  See environment and health resolution.
