Brussels unveils plan to reduce raw material use

European commission strategy calls for improved resource efficiency and more recycling

The EU must take further steps to reduce its consumption of primary raw materials and promote recycling in order to avoid future raw material shortages, according to a policy paper published by the European commission on Tuesday.

The strategy sets out initiatives that the commission, EU member states and industry sectors can take in the coming years to ensure continued access to non-energy raw materials (EED 11/08/08).  It was drawn up by the commission's industry department.
