Preparations for Copenhagen climate summit prominent in European commission's work programme for next year

Climate and energy issues will remain high on the European commission's agenda for next year but economic growth and jobs will be given top priority as recession looms in Europe, according to the commission's work programme for 2009. 

Preparing the EU's position ahead of global climate negotiations in Copenhagen will be one of the European commission's key priorities for next year, according to the work programme (EED 13/02/08).  Climate issues rose to the top of the commission's agenda in 2008 (EED 25/10/07).
