Dutch agency issues warning over climate goals

Environmental assessment unit predicts emission reduction and renewables goals for 2020 will not all be met

The Netherlands will probably not meet all the greenhouse gas emission reduction and renewables goals set out in a national climate and energy strategy last year, according to a new report published by the country's environmental assessment agency (PBL) on Monday.

The PBL predicts Dutch renewable energy production will reach just 7 per cent by 2020, half the Netherlands' target under EU renewables plans (EED 23/01/08).  It blames in part insufficient government subsidies (EED 20/07/07).
