Experts debate role of forests in climate policy

EU policymakers, industry and NGOs discuss forests as carbon sinks and source of materials and energy

European policymakers, industry and NGOs discussed the role of forests as carbon sinks and a source of product materials and renewable energy at a two-day conference in Nancy, France, at the end of last week.  At the event, supported by the French EU presidency and European commission, experts called for more scientific research, especially to better understand regional differences, and further discussions to ensure the forestry sector plays a key role in shaping a post-2012 climate policy (EED 19/09/08).  See conference website and IISD coverage.
