Ireland extends tax breaks for efficient equipment

Corporate incentive for buying energy-saving equipment to be widened, government says

The Irish government has announced the extension of a corporate tax incentive for buying energy-saving equipment in its draft budget for 2009, energy minister Eamon Ryan said on Monday.

Irish companies will soon receive new tax breaks for purchasing, among other items, more efficient heating and air conditioning systems, IT infrastructure hardware and biofuel conversion kits.  The incentive was introduced in this year's budget and currently applies to products including lighting equipment.  The extended scheme is expected to cover at least 60 per cent of firms' energy use.
