EU rewards best eco-management practices

Five organisations receive European commission's Emas awards for efforts to reduce emissions

Five organisations have received the European commission's annual green award for bodies certified under the EU's Emas eco-management scheme.  This year's awards rewarded efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Winners in the private sector were Swedish dairy producer Milko, Belgian roofing membranes manufacturer Imperbel and Italian energy firm Pangea.  Awards also went to the Kirklees local authority in Yorkshire, UK, and to a church in Kreuzäcker,  Germany.  More than 4,000 organisations are now registered with the EU eco-management scheme (EED 20/11/06).
