EU chemical pre-registration crunch continues

Chemical agency beefs up Reach information system to handle last-minute submissions

The European chemicals agency (Echa) has been forced to further expand its Reach-IT information system to cope with increasing numbers of submissions from companies aiming to beat a 1 December substance pre-registration deadline (EED 10/11/08).

In a statement on Friday Echa said that despite the improvements its system "may still exhibit slow response times".  But it would not extend the December deadline, after which chemicals that have not been pre-registered must go immediately through a full registration procedure.
