France gets EU rap over environmental liability law

The European court of justice has condemned France for failing to fully transpose the EU's 2004 directive on environmental liability into national law. France was one of nine member states to be taken to court by the European commission in June for breaching the law (EE 27/06/08). The law's transposition deadline was April 2007. France told judges it was close to full implementation (EE 09/06/08).
