Gabriel reassures German renewables sector

German environment minister Sigmar Gabriel told a meeting of banks and renewable energy firms in Berlin on Thursday that the government would strengthen credit guarantees to help the renewables sector bridge the financial crisis.

Mr Gabriel acknowledged that long-term financing of larger projects was now more difficult, but said this would be temporary, since renewables demand was driven by broader energy and climate policy imperatives.
