Info technology plan to cut transport's emissions

The European commission has launched a plan to increase use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to help further reduce carbon emissions from the road transport sector.

The objective is to harmonise intelligent transport systems (ITSs) across the EU, ensuring interoperability. Examples of ITSs include on-board navigation systems and electronic road charging systems. An earlier EU directive adopted in 2004 aims at harmonising road charging systems (EE 01/08/05).
