Environmental crime directive to enter force

An EU directive aimed at criminalising the most serious offences against the environment will enter force on 26 December after being published in the bloc's official journal earlier this month.

The final text of the law was published by the council of ministers in August (EE 20/08/08). The directive lists all activities that can be classed as criminal offences across the EU. Member states will have two years to transpose it into national law after entry into force.
