An international protocol for recording and reporting emissions of 86 pollutants from industrial facilities entered force on Thursday. Releases from smaller sources such as traffic, agriculture and small enterprises are also covered.
Under the protocol, firms must report annually on the amounts of certain pollutants they release to the environment or transfer to other facilities. It was agreed in 2003 and entered into force following France's ratification of the law in July.
