The cost of carbon is “an unstoppable steamroller” that will affect the bottom line of all businesses either directly and indirectly, according to a new report from consulting firm Arthur D. Little.
Whatever the outcome of the UN climate conference in Copenhagen in December, the policies in the EU and elsewhere for attaching a cost to carbon emissions are now well-established and will continue, the authors say.
Carbon prices will steadily increase, they predict. Companies will face challenges such as changing investor attitudes, changing consumer preferences and new competitive threats.
