EU pesticide statistics law set for publication

The final wording of new EU rules on collecting data on the distribution and use of pesticides has been approved by the Council of Ministers, opening the way for its publication in the EU official journal and entry into force.

The regulation will require member states to submit data annually on the amount of pesticides placed on the market and used in their territories. If the rules enter force this year, the first year for which governments must submit statistics will be 2011.
