Danish power sector doubles energy-saving pledge

Energy firms in Denmark have agreed to achieve savings equivalent to nearly 1% of the nation's annual energy consumption, the government said on Friday. The 0.8% target of up to 5.4 peta-joules (PJ) per year is almost double the industry's previous commitment.

This corresponds to the annual energy consumption of about 67,000 households, the energy ministry said in a statement. As Denmark's target for annual energy savings is 1.5% of consumption, or 10.3 PJ/year, the industry would be responsible for about half the total.
