The Norwegian government has won parliamentary approval for a controversial proposal to revoke an exemption from fuel tax on biodiesel. Germany scrapped tax breaks for most types of biofuels in 2006. The decision was backed by EU judges earlier this year
Norway's prime minister Jens Stoltenberg had backed the measure despite vociferous opposition from NGOs and MPs, arguing all motorists should contribute to public services such as road maintenance. Cars using biofuels also have an impact, he added.
