First-ever ecolabel criteria for carpets published

The European Union has published first-ever environmental criteria for awarding its flower ecolabel to manufacturers of textile floor coverings such as carpets. Member states approved the criteria in September.

The criteria, which will be valid for four years, set various chemical restrictions such as a 100mg/kg limit for the heavy metal content of fitted carpet. There are also fibre-specific criteria for wool, polyamide, polyester and polypropylene.
