Nordic prime ministers meeting in Reykjavik have added their collective voice to calls for a global shift towards green growth, which they described as "a mantra for how the Nordic countries will together create the conditions for saving the world's climate while also creating economic growth and new green jobs".
A common borderless electricity market, energy-efficient innovative solutions in construction, and a continued focus on green R&D are priorities, the ministers said in a statement on Tuesday. The Nordics should also exploit their environmental technologies "to enhance competitiveness in the Nordic countries while reducing oil imports and CO2 emissions", they added.
