New EU energy labelling rules for appliances

Rules setting the first-ever energy label for televisions and new energy efficiency classes for fridges and freezers, dishwashers and washing machines will come into force on 20 December following their publication in the EU's official journal.

The rules, proposed by the European Commission in September, are contained in four regulations published on Tuesday. They introduce an A-G scale for televisions, with efficiency classes A+, A++ and A+++ applying in 2014, 2017 and 2020 respectively.
