The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has been accused of stubbornness after once again concluding that its scientific advice on BPA remains valid despite a recent French report saying the chemical can pose health risks, even at low levels.
The report was released by French food safety agency ANSES in September. It focuses on hazard identification, which is only the first of four stages in the risk assessment process, EFSA explained in a statement on Thursday. EFSA said that its own assessment, on which its latest advice is based, is a lot more comprehensive.
